I'm sure you all have heard about the legal troubles for Ray Rice due to his assault against a woman. I don't care about the "he said, she said". Do you guys think there will be A. Consequences from the NFL/Ravens? (If there have been some, I haven't heard them yet) B. Lasting effects that tarnish his image?

He could be a 'cleveland brown'

As for any consequences, I don't believe so. It's the first offense (that I've heard of) however, with that being said I think it will also determine if this goes any further to trial and the results of that.

I WILL. How in THE HELL does Ray Rice only get a 2 game suspension for beating his now wife unconscious?! Yeah, yeah there is no tape proving it, blah blah. But four eye witnesses were paid off and mysteriously there is no inside elevator footage (another hush money slide). So we know what he did and so does dumb ass Badell.

Ben got 6 games over what ALLEGEDLY happened, and was never charged OR arrested!! WTF?!!

Because we've all known for years that Der Kommish is a piece of shit and doesn't have an ounce of integrity, or fairness to his discipline.

I watched Rice's apology on NFL network and not once did he tell his wife (who was sitting next to him with a look of sheer Disgust) that he was sorry. If we had any integrity at the top instead of as you put it Truck a POS he would be gone for a year. I just have to wonder how deep Goodell was in this coverup.

I would like to meet Goodell so I could spit on that sorry Son of a Bitch. He is everything wrong with the league.

PostSubject: Re: Ray Rice   Sat Jul 26, 2014 4:27 am

A lot of fans, regardless of who they cheer for, seem to think that everyone (especially the refs) are always giving their team the short end of the stick. Take Cris Collinsworth, for instance ... nearly every Steelers fan I've talked to thinks Collinsworth hates the Steelers and always bad-mouths them during games. The funny thing is that I've talked to lots of fans of other teams, and they all say the same thing as Steelers fans ... that Collinsworth hates THEIR team.

I've tried to never be like that. I try to not see everything through Black and Gold glasses, and to look at situations objectively. I don't always succeed, but I try my best.

With that said, I agree 100 percent with Truck ... Goodell is a piece of shit. Looking at everything objectively, I don't think he's biased against the Steelers, but I do think he's an idiot and there's no rhyme nor reason to the way he hands out punishments.

We can argue all day along about whether we think Ben did what he was accused of, but it doesn't really matter what any of us think. The bottom line is that no charges were filed in either case. So there was absolutely NOTHING to punish him for. You can't punish someone based solely on unsubstantiated accusations.

This has been somewhat of a rambling post, so I'll end it by saying that I don't think Rice should have faced too severe of a punishment (like a one-year suspension), but if Goodell thinks Ben deserves a 6-game suspension (eventually reduced to 4) for accusations of assaulting a woman, it makes no sense to me why Rice gets only a 2-game suspension for actually assaulting a woman. I guess it makes sense in Goodell's world.

I usually don't post based on "heresay", but didn't Rice's wife also assault him?

Honestly, if my husband assaulted me -- it would be his last assault  Twisted Evil  Seriously, some of these woman will stay with an abuser for a myriad of reasons, and money is one of them.

I think Ben got a harsher sentence because it was his second go around with a similar issue (even though the first accusation was 100% complete BS).

I truly believe Goddell has a special dislike for the Steeler players. Not necessarily the Rooney's, but the players ever since Harrison said he wouldn't piss on him if he were on fire. JMHO though.

I don't think he should face a year (like 2nd offense pot users...so smoking pot is worse than beating up a woman???) but I do think he should face the same penalty Ben had of 6 games. Appeal if you want to, but giving him 2 games is almost a joke. It's almost like, what's the point? Now he is setting a standard that he better follow through with on future cases, and you know there will be more. Will he hold everyone to the same standard, or is it because Rice put on such big kiss ass pants to Shitdell in his meeting, he was special?

I don't know, and I don't make the rules...unfortunately some jack ass on a power trip does.

A video has been released of what happened in the elevator. I am left speechless if Goodell saw this video and thought 2 games was sufficient. Unreal.

The video is here: http://www.tmz.com/2014/09/08/ray-rice-elevator-knockout-fiancee-takes-crushing-punch-video/

Well now that the full video is out:
http://www.tmz.com/videos/0_ekaflcqq

My response on facebook:
It would be easy as a Steelers fan who constantly gets shit from all his Ravens fan friends to talk about how classless the Ravens organization is for supporting Rice during what he claimed was not a domestic violence situation. Especially since all of those same fans were extremely quick to go nuts on what ALLEGEDLY happened with Ben who was never arrested or charged but still got suspended 6 games. But I think the onus of blame rests squarely on Ray Rice's shoulders and then on Roger Goodell's for not delivering the appropriate sentence. Now that the full video is out, I think any Raven fan wearing a Rice jersey should be treated exactly how I get treated whenever I go to Ravens/Steelers game in my Steelers jersey. Or better yet, focus all that hate on those idiots and let me enjoy the game for once.

Well he did come out and say he got it wrong. But damn, you can always come back and fix it by giving him a longer suspension.

This whole thing with Ray Rice really has me questioning the integrity of Roger Goodell. I caught just a part of the interview this morning on SportsCenter and I'm not saying I'm a human lie detector test but IMO it looked like he was being untruthful. Something about his demeanor was like a kid that knew he got caught and was doing his best to try and get out of it. There has been so much "he said, she said" going on that I don't know if we'll ever find out the facts.

The problem I have with Ray Rice's punishment is the double jeopardy he's been given. The commissioner messed up, badly, I might add, and now he's trying to make amends due to public outcry.

For years the commissioner talked about the integrity of the league, and the bottom line is that he hasn't maintain it in his disciplinary decisions and its finally bitten him in the arse.

Unfortunately for Ray Rice he's the poster child on this one.

Don't get me wrong I don't condone what Rice did.

New Jersey judge dismisses Ray Rice's domestic violence charges
By Sam Cooper
Shutdown Corner

A New Jersey judge dismissed the domestic violence charges against former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice on Thursday.

The charges stemmed from a February 2014 incident in which Rice struck his now-wife Janay in an elevator at an Atlantic City casino. The NFL originally suspended Rice for two games, but the suspension became indefinite and the Ravens cut him after the graphic video of the altercation surfaced in September.

Rice, who was charged with third-degree aggravated assault, avoided jail time after being accepted into a pretrial intervention program (including anger management) for first-time offenders. Rice completed the program this week, and Judge Michael A. Donio dismissed the charge Thursday, according to NBC News.

The NFL’s indefinite suspension of Rice was eventually lifted following an appeal that was heard by federal judge Barbara S. Jones, who criticized the NFL’s handling of the situation.

Rice, who remains a free agent, told the Baltimore Sun in February that the completion of the program would give him “a refreshing start.”

“I’m actually done in my case,” Rice said. “Really, I just have to call the state of New Jersey once a month. After May 19, I’m done. It will be a full year. It will be like a refreshing start.”

Goodell really has ruined the NFL. And really the guy needs to be replaced. If the ghost of Pete Rozelle was here, he would be a lot more harsher on Ray! IMHO that is.

If Rozelle or Tagliabue where here, then we'd be talking about something and not Ray Rice, not the Cheatroits****, not any of this non-sense. And we'd be watching real football where QBs take hits, WRs can hit back, and defensive players get to play defense not flag football.

But instead we have Goodell, which means we don't get real football, and true fans continue suffer.

It's a business - part of the business reality is trying to deal with the fact playing the game can cause brain damage - the NFL is not trying to reduce the level and nature of the hitting because league officials would prefer to watch ballet - it is to avoid having the sport decline through a combination of lower participation and crippling litigation

But under their own ideology of making the game safer, they are in turn making the game more dangerous. Defensive players have already mentioned that if they aren't going high, they're going low. So from head injury to unable to walk, with still the chance of getting a concussion somewhere along the way.

My point is that how do you have a defensive player responsible for an offensive player who after catching the ball lowered his center of gravity while the defensive player is in motion? I challenge you to run at full speed towards a wall and when you're exactly two fit away from it try to stop from hitting the wall at the location you were looking to it and/or without getting hurt yourself during the slowing down process.

And IMO, these guys know what they're getting themselves in to when they sign the contract. Football has always been a violent sport.

You last line isn't true.  Only now are players learning the risks and many are in denial as the league was for decades.  Even so, if we let it be a blood sport it will die.   Knee injuries don't change your personality, brain injuries can.  And never for the better. I don't want players hurt for my entertainment. I'll prefer healthy players making amazing plays.

Today's players have even stated they know what they're getting in to when they sign up.

While I agree I don't want it to be a complete blood sport, you can't put the responsibility of changing intensity of a hit or the bodily flow of a play on the defensive player and give all the benefit to the offensive player. It changes the game to the point where offensive players, in this case WRs, can take advantage of the rule.

Example 1:
WR catches the ball and as he's coming to the ground he sees the defender coming at him so he lowers himself to a lower center of gravity. Defender can't change his direction and when he hits the WR in the head (but at the initial flow would have been his mid-section) and gets a flag for hitting a defense less WR.

Example 2:
WR catches ball and the defender, attempting to not hit the WR too hard or in the head, launches himself at the WR and instead of following through on the hit, only pushes the WR a few yards and the WR continues to run downfield either for an extended YAC or for a score.

These are only 2, but the league has changed the rules to change the scales in favor of the offense. And the rules they continue to make only benefit the offense (well except the Hines Ward rule).
