PostSubject: Haley ready for offense to turn 30   Thu Jun 09, 2016 12:00 pm

By Mark Kaboly

Todd Haley has unwavering faith that this year's version of the Steelers offense can hit the elusive goal of 30 points per game.

They have the quarterback with Ben Roethlisberger; running backs with Le'Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams; and receiver Antonio Brown, along with tight end Ladarius Green and the core of an offensive line that's been together for several seasons.

All they need are the key players to stay healthy and the goal of 30 points per game is possible.

“You would like to think so,” Haley said Wednesday during organized team activities in his first public comments since the Steelers lost in the AFC divisional game in January. “In this league, it is hard to win in a week-in, week-out basis. You add injuries to it and makes it even more difficult.”

We're gonna need AB and Bell to stay healthy, but it definitely is attainable.

I'm a little more worried about Bell staying healthy since he's yet to give us a full season without getting injured. Though last year's could be due to that dirty ass player from the bengals

Just hope that Bell can stay healthy. And play the whole 16 game season.

They were talking about this on NFL Network this morning and he said there were only two games (2-games) lasy year where Ben, AB and Bell played together. That shocked me.

It has got to be better this year....stay healthy guys!

Wouldn't it be nice to have them play all 19 or 20 games together next year?

That would be great. We had more than our share of injuries last year and hope to have a healthy season this year!

Haley, Roethlisberger relationship built on trust, desire to win

Mark Kaboly | Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016

Sometimes Ben Roethlisberger calls the plays, and that's the way Todd Haley wants it.

Sometimes Haley calls the plays, and that's the way Roethlisberger likes it.

Other times, it is a little of both — it just depends.

Regardless of how the Steelers' no-huddle offense is constructed, it is a snapshot of the relationship between Haley and Roethlisberger — a lot of give-and-take and plenty of trust.

“There is just a level of trust and understanding of what I want and what he wants,” Roethlisberger said. “We really work well together.”

Haley quickly realized that working well together means to sometimes turn control of the offense over to Roethlisberger. In an ego-driven win-now league with insecurity that goes along with being an offensive coordinator, it isn't something you see all the time.

For Haley, who has been part of coaching some of the NFL's best passing games, it wouldn't seem easy to entrust the offense to a quarterback, albeit a possible Hall-of-Fame quarterback.

Instead, it has been just the opposite.

“I want to win,” Haley said. “There are some insecure people in this business who aren't comfortable in turning it over, but I said since Day One, even from an idea standpoint, I don't care who comes up with ideas. It doesn't matter. It is how we find the best idea that gives us the best chance to win because we all work too hard not to put yourself in position to win.”

The idea of handing it over to Roethlisberger — at least in the no-huddle — might come into play more this year. The Steelers offense has become one of the NFL's best under Haley over the past two years, ranking in the top three.

Now, with the possibility of the Steelers ratcheting up the no-huddle offense even more, Roethlisberger will have the final say more when they use that package.

“You have to have a great trust between the coach and the quarterback and vice versa,” Haley said. “When we go out there in no-huddle, we have a lot of preparation in seeing what plays we are thinking about. We will practice them appropriately. You need a quarterback who understands defense, who understands what we are trying to get done, whether it is run or pass.”

Haley said the offense will do whatever it needs to do to win.

Roethlisberger hinted the offense will move toward more no-huddle than the Steelers used in past years.

In his only preseason action last week against the New Orleans Saints, Roethlisberger used the no-huddle 16 times in 19 plays. Two of the three times the Steelers didn't use it was on the first play of the series. The no-huddle under Roethlisberger resulted in 153 yards and two touchdowns.

A lot of those plays were called by Roethlisberger at the line of scrimmage, but it is the preparation leading up to the game that makes that possible — and Haley's willingness to let his quarterback direct the offense.

Yeah, reject coach from KC, got into fights with his QB's, lousy dink and dunk offense and only hired because of his father. No way he is as good as some other OC's that got Ben sacked 50 times a season with 7 step drop offenses.

Totally agree. The Rooneys put most of their money into that offense, they better start hanging 30 per game.

That's OK. We'll have AB,Coates and AB lite. Before it's all over I believe that's who Rogers will be. The kid is fast and shifty.
