Tomlin ready to open up wallet after questioning officials vs. Browns

You don’t often hear Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin be critical of the officials in a game. No matter how lopsided the officiating seems to be, Tomlin typically points to the execution of his own team, offers up one of his typical colloquialisms like “the standard is the standard” and moves on. But this week, according to Ed Bouchette of the Post-Gazette, Tomlin felt the need to comment on some concerns he had.

Knowing how the league operates, even comments this benign won’t escape the all-seeing eye of Sauron that is the NFL. Nevertheless, Tomlin rarely speaks out of emotion and his comments are always measured and done with a purpose. If speaking on issues he has with the refs today can get him a call down the road, he deems it worth it.

Interestingly, I felt like the officiating was much more questionable last week against the Dallas Cowboys. And considering the Steelers lost, those calle likely had a much greater negative impact on the game. But again, Tomlin does nothing without a plan when it comes to what comes out of his mouth, so let’s trust he has his reasons, and all his Christmas shopping done already.
