My lady and I were just down on E. Carson St last week and we could feel what type of vibe the Southside Flats area had. Long story short, were lucky to get a Lyft or Uber out of the area at 2 am. Every driver we talked to in Pittsburgh said how they did everything possible to avoid getting pinged to E. Carson St, because they didn't want to deal with all of the dumb asses down there.

My main point here is that if I was Joey Porter, I wouldn't even be going down to that side of town at night. He should know that there is nothing but trouble lurking, especially for a local sports celebrity. When it comes to alcohol, trouble is easy to get into, but hard to get out of...

Very accurate.

In my younger days, I would have been all over that type of atmosphere. Today, I am comfortable with making my own drinks in my own bar.

South Side is where Mike Adams (he of the failed offensive lineman) got stabbed.

Not to completely date myself, the "scene" in Pittsburgh when I was that age was Station Square and the Strip District.

And he should be, not that I like that but it was totally uncalled for and embarrassing.

So disappointed in Porter. Easily avoidable. Shouldn't even put himself into that area in the first place. Such a stupid, and unnecessary distraction.

Right there, in and of itself is a good reason to NEVER GO BACK TO THE SAME BAR!

Agreed - I make it a best practice not to return to any bar where I have threatened to kill the doorman or bartender during a previous visit

That's because you don't bring some type of influential friends who will stand around while you obviously assault the guy again, then tell the police that they "got" you. Besides, that doorman had it coming. He needs to learn to take an assault better than that. I mean, I would never open my mouth with facts or comments while Drunken Peezy beats my a$$. It's principle #3 that I live my life by:

  1. Never play poker with men named after cities or locations (eg: Dallas, Reno, Tex)
  2. Never submit to a paternity test without a court order
  3. Don't talk to Drunken Peezy while he beats your a$$

I've followed these principles all my life and things have worked out pretty well for me.

Seems the Officer's credibility is coming into question now, kind of expected that when you're dealing with the arrest of a former athlete and coach that they'd dig up every piece of dirt possible.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. On one hand I hope Porter gets cleared of any wrongdoing, but on another, as a member of the law enforcement community I hope that that Officer wasn't doing anything wrong, but if he was I hope he gets reprimanded.

I'd prefer Kevin Greene as the OLB coach was a better player and is a better person then Peezy.

I second that. Kevin Greene would be awesome, and he wouldn't be out putting himself into stupid juvenile situations. Porter is apparently still trying to live a player's life, instead of being a leader and a coach.

My Facebook conversation with a friend who was born and raised in Pittsburgh. His last comment had me chuckling. Do any of you local yinzers agree with this?

And now the rest of the story ...

However, the account is in dispute. Two people told WTAE News 4 in Pittsburgh that they witnessed the incident and that Porter had a verbal altercation with the bouncer at the Flats, but it did not get physical.

Read the rest of the article here.

Porter wont be back next season. Not like this is the first time he's been involved in stuff like this and not many teams want a 40 year old coach with a history of ending up on a police report. One of my favorite Steelers of recent times, but the fact that this is still a story on Wednesday says his distractions are not worth whatever contributions he brings to the team.

Time to move on and Greene may be better.  Wonder if he could get Jarvis Jones to play like a first round pick...

Joey's best move as a LB coach was wandering onto the field last year to bait Pac-Man into that backbreaking Bengal penalty.

Man I hope so, they'd have to be nuts not to give Greene a shot at the job. Porter pissed his opportunity down the drain. Even if he gets totally cleared of wrongdoing, what are you doing on that side of town in bars? You're a coach, you're a leader, set the example.

Chief defends cop after Steeler coach’s arrest is questioned

PITTSBURGH –The city’s acting police chief is defending an officer who arrested Steelers coach Joey Porter outside a bar after the independent Citizens Police Review Board confirmed it’s investigating the incident.

“I have concluded the officer’s account of the incident is accurate and our officer conducted himself in the professional manner that is to be expected,” Chief Scott Schubert said, referring to arresting Officer Paul Abel. Schubert said he reviewed unspecified videos of the incident Sunday, including some recorded by Abel’s body camera, in reaching that conclusion.

Porter’s arrest has generated intense social media interest, and review board executive director Elizabeth Pittinger said it was that “high visibility” and “negative chatter” on social media surrounding the incident that prompted the review.

It really says a lot when the Chief of Police is actually backing up his officer. With the way things have been the past year or so, more often than not they'll simply bow down to public pressure and go against the officer in the name of pandering to the masses to save face for the department. I was actually quite surprised to read this. In my eyes, it's pretty damning for Joey Porter.

Its Tomlin's coaching staff and he would want to have Greene, so just because the guy has coaching experience and is a HOF pass rusher still doesn't mean its a fit for Tomlin.

As for Porter, I completely agree with you.
- Its one thing when you and 3 others get in a fight with Levi Jones in a Vegas Casino as a player.
-Its another when you get into an incident with the California Highway Patrol in 2010 as a Cardinals player.
-Its another when you walk onto the field last year in the playoffs and get into things with the Bengals players, when you could have been penalized for being on the field
-.....BUT, you are a coach and going to face the #2 seed on the road in the Conference semi-finals. Have a celebratory pint with the fellas and be ready to break down film on Monday and not on the south side getting into drunken altercations.

I love Joey Porter as a player, but nobody to blame but himself if you get fired by the Steelers.

Don't forget he was shot in the a$$ in 2003 while "minding his own business" at 2 a.m. outside a seedy bar in Denver.

I agree that he was an awesome player for the Steelers. I still love some of his current quotes. And I can't really comment on how good of a coach he is since I'm not one of his players. But he certainly is not providing the kind of leadership the Steelers, or Tomlin, desire in their coaches.

PostSubject: District Attorney Has Reduced Charges Against Joey Porter   Thu Jan 12, 2017 2:51 pm

"Joey Porter received some good news with regard to the charges levied against him stemming from Sunday night's arrest on Pittsburgh's South Side.

According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the District Attorney has reduced charges against Porter to disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, both summary charges.

Porter, who got into an altercation with a door man at a South Side establishment on Sunday night, was released early Monday morning after posting a $25,000 bail. He was placed on administrative leave on Monday afternoon, and on Tuesday, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said that defensive coordinator Keith Butler would fill in as Pittsburgh's active outside linebacker's coach.

Tomlin added that the team hasn't ruled out Porter returning to the team during the playoffs, as Pittsburgh continues its preparation for Sunday's AFC divisional round playoff game in Kansas City."
