Even though the front office of the Pittsburgh Steelers indicated their focus is on the 2017 NFL draft, they still found the time on Wednesday to sign defensive end Jason Fanaika. He played his college ball at the University of Utah and spent 2016 on the practice squads of the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders and Washington Redskins.

Not sure why this has now just been reported. They signed him in February.

Sounds like there's a reason (weight and conditioning) he didn't make it past practice squad on 3 different teams.

looks like a 4-3 DE needs to be in the 260lbs. range I like he has long arms.

Hmm, you're right. Apparently his signing made a big impact on a lot of us.

This was news to even some people like Jim Wexell ...

You may remember edge Jason Fanaika who came out of Utah last year. Steelers signed him today. 6-1.6, 271, best suited for 40 front.

I see they signed him to a futures contract in February, so I thought perhaps they signed him to a new contract yesterday. But I can't find any report from a legitimate source confirming that. So it looks like this is a case of someone picking up on an old story, and others who missed it the first time (including me) thinking it was fresh.

At least give him a chance. James Harrison was cut 4 times and ended up being pretty good

Fanaika was waived by the Steelers on Wednesday, Bryan DeArdo of 247 Sports reports.

Fanaika was just signed in late March and it isn't clear why he was let go so quickly. However, the timing of his release leaves him plenty of time to find a new home in advance of team training camps in late July.

What makes the story even funnier is that it says he was signed in late March, which, as has been pointed out, isn't accurate. For a player who wasn't around very long, he sure created a lot of confusion and mystery.

May not like Harrison as a person. But as a player he is a beast and future H.O.F!
