Quote :
RUNNING BACK
BRADFORD: Le’Veon Bell, Knile Davis, James Conner, Roosevelt Nix (FB) (4)
MUELLER: Le'Veon Bell, Knile Davis, James Conner, Roosevelt Nix (FB) (4)

The Skinny: There will be competition behind Bell for the No. 2 running back slot after DeAngelo Williams' departure. The Steelers added former Kansas City RB Knile Davis in free agency, who joins Fitzgerald Toussaint and 2017 third-round pick James Conner. Conner's spot is secure barring injury, so Davis and Toussaint will likely battle it out for a job come August.

WIDE RECEIVER
BRADFORD: Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, Eli Rogers, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Sammie Coates, Darrius Heyward-Bey (6)
MUELLER: Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, Eli Rogers, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Justin Hunter, Darrius Heyward-Bey (6)

The Skinny: Without a doubt, the competition at receiver will be the position battle to watch come training camp. Taking JuJu Smith-Schuster with a second-round pick made an already crowded receiving core that much more jam-packed. Brown and Bryant will obviously make the team. Rogers is the team's primary slot receiver, and progressed last season in his first true NFL action. He should be safe Behind them, Coates, Heyward-Bey and Hunter -- a free agent signing -- will compete for two spots if the Steelers are going to keep six receivers. Ayers is still practice squad eligible, which is where he'll likely end up if he clears waivers. With a strong preseason audition, Cobi Hamilton can put himself in position to be playing somewhere else, though his future in Pittsburgh appears all but over.

DEFENSIVE LINE
BRADFORD: Cam Heyward, Stephon Tuitt, Javon Hargrave, Tyson Alualu, L.T. Walton, Johnny Maxey (6)
MUELLER: Cam Heyward, Stephon Tuitt, Javon Hargrave, Tyson Alualu, L.T. Walton, Johnny Maxey (6)

The Skinny: Dan McCullers' days in Pittsburgh could be over. He hasn't lived up to expectations in his first three years with the team, and it wouldn't be remiss for the Steelers to part ways with him as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. Walton -- traditionally a defensive end -- received nose tackle reps over McCullers when Hargrave was injured during OTAs. Walton and Maxey bring more versatility to the defensive line.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKER
BRADFORD: Bud Dupree, James Harrison, T.J. Watt, Arthur Moats, Anthony Chickillo (5)
MUELLER: Bud Dupree, James Harrison, T.J. Watt, Arthur Moats, Anthony Chickillo (5)

The Skinny: The outside linebacker position is already set entering training camp. T.J. Watt should join Bud Dupree and James Harrison in the starting rotation, while Moats and Chickillo serve as complimentary depth pieces. Harrison won't participate much in camp, so Latrobe will provide an opportunity to catch a heavy dose of Watt in pads.

INSIDE LINEBACKER

BRADFORD: Ryan Shazier, Vince Williams, Tyler Matakevich, L.J. Fort, Steven Johnson (5)
MUELLER: Ryan Shazier, Vince Williams, Tyler Matakevich, L.J. Fort, Steven Johnson (5)

The Skinny: The Steelers could go two different routes at inside linebacker. With Shazier and Williams the locks at starters, will they decide to go with four or five players at the position? Matakevich received first-team reps during OTAs when Shazier took days off, which indicates his spot is secure. Johnson was injured last season and didn't provide a true barometer of his ability to contribute, but the fact that the Steelers retained him in free agency speaks to their view of him. If a player is cut, it should be Fort.

CORNERBACK
BRADFORD: Artie Burns, Will Gay, Ross Cockrell, Coty Sensabaugh, Cameron Sutton (5)
MUELLER: Artie Burns, Will Gay, Ross Cockrell, Cameron Sutton, Senquez Golson, Coty Sensabaugh (6)

The Skinny: Will the Steelers keep five or six cornerbacks? It depends on Golson's performance in camp. The former third-round pick has never been able to emerge from the first week in Latrobe healthy. If he can, maybe the Steelers will keep him around for special teams duties. Defensive backs coach Carnell Lake said during minicamp that Golson's primary route to the roster will be through the ST units. Fifth-round project pick Brian Allen will begin the season on the practice squad.

 SAFETY
BRADFORD: Mike Mitchell, Sean Davis, Robert Golden, Daimion Stafford, Jordan Dangerfield (5)
MUELLER: Mike Mitchell, Sean Davis, Robert Golden, Jordan Dangerfield (4)

The Skinny: Stafford and Dangerfield will battle it out for the last safety position. Stafford was signed as a free agent in the middle of OTAs, but brings a hard-hitting presence that can be utilized on special teams. If the Steelers keep five cornerbacks, Stafford could make the team. Though they might elect to keep just four safeties alike last year -- all of whom are experienced -- and address an extra spot at a greater position of need.

have at it board posters.

I can see Hunter forcing Coates off the team, especially if Sammie hasn't improved since his drop-off. I'm not sure if his hand / mental issues are something he's going to get past. But with that said, I hope Coates can return to his early season form last year, he was beasting.

Hunter flashed potential and made plays, and hasn't really played for a good QB. If he could build a rapport with Ben, he could live up to his billing.

I agree that it will be between Coates and Hunter. To be honest, I think if Hunter shows up, it's Coates' job to lose. That will be interesting to watch. Also the battle at CB. I wanna see what Sutton can do. I doubt Golson will make it to reg season week 1 before he gets hurt again.
