2:30ish left on the clock with 2 time outs and the 2 minute warning and he calls the onside kick... why because he had ZERO faith the D could stop them and rightfully so. The defense had been smacked around since the first play of the game after kick off and never recovered.

My point is IF YOU DONT TRUST THE DEFENSE THEN FIRE the people you put in charge and get some people you can trust.

Keith “Can’t Adjust” Butler needs to go. The dude just simply freezes when the game is going and becomes super vanilla man with the play calling...

Porter and Lake... see ya loved you guys as players but your eyes for talent and coaching up your players are limited.

Agreed...Coaching is this teams biggest flaw. Butler has not been a good replacement

Even if the defense has been having trouble I would think the odds of them stopping the jags deep in they’re own territory are better than recovering an onside kick.

To me, no excuse, just a terrible decision.

There's a long list of frustrating things to choose from in this game, but at the top of the list is the onside kick. Yes, the defense hadn't stopped the Jags all game, but with the game on the line, does anyone seriously think they would have trusted Bortles to win the game? No. Regardless of where they got the ball, the play calling would have been the same ... run the ball, force the Steelers to use their timeouts, punt, and rely on their defense and the clock. By going for the onside kick, the Steelers traded the punt for a field goal that iced the game. That decision is far from the only reason we lost, but it certainly made winning impossible.

The onside kick was imo the right move. Whether Jacksonville got the ball at their own 25 or midfield, the situation was exactly the same: Force a three-and-out or lose the game. But with the onside kick you also have a 10-15% chance of getting the ball without that, probably gaining a lot of field position, a minute or more of clock time, plus keeping your timeouts in the process. Any of those would've made the difference in our favor there.

What really killed us was fucking up the onside kick so terribly that they were in FG range even after we stopped them. Normally they're getting the ball at the 45-50 yard line and have about a 55 to 60-yard field goal attempt if they fail to make a first down. We kick the ball 5 yards and stack a 5-yard penalty on top of it to give them the ball at the 35. Those 15 yards were the game there. (Ignoring all our other fuck-ups, of course.)

If there's any doubt how huge it would've been to have two more timeouts, or an extra minute on the clock, just look at how the very end of the game played out. THAT'S what you gain from an onside kick. You have to try.
