Maybe Steelers Nation should be thanking Le'Veon Bell for his decision to stay out of the game for the first part of the season.

Had he come back and played week 1, I don't think we would have been able to see James Conner to his fullest potential.  Had he come back and played week 1, I don't think we would have been able to see how great of a steal Conner was in the draft.  Had he come back and played week 1, we would have had to wait until next season to see Conner.

But now, Bell has done us a favor.  He has proven it's not all him.  He has proven there is a way to win without him and to do it with class and without drama.

Damn it man. Now you caused me to do a 180* and be a Bell fan again.

I'm here to help you through the season SD. Just doing my job!

Through 7 games Conner is currently leading AFC in rushing, the RBs behind him at 2-5 in rushing yards are all on teams that have played 8 games.

Conner leads AFC in rushing TDs and second (10 to 9) to KC's Hunt in total TDs who has one more game played than Conner.

Conner has had 7 20+ yard runs in 7 games, Bell had 3 all last year.

Conner currently the Steelers #1 in rushing yards and #3 in receiving yards...hopefully he doesn't ask to be paid as the teams #1 RB and #3 receiver...

When Bell comes back (I expect him to sign tomorrow after the trade deadline), Conner should be named the starter for the rest of the season at RB with him getting 70-80% of the carries and the rest for Bell.
However, I'm probably one of the very few Steelers fans looking forward to the return of Bell. Not as a RB, but as WR#3. So far we only have AB and Juju at the position. Washington and Hunter haven't shown anything. A line-up with AB, Juju, Bell, McDonald and Conner is going to tear up defenses. It will be good for Bell too. Less wear than playing RB and he can show teams his versatility for next season.
I believe with Bell added to our line-up we will get a SB caliber offense. It will also give AB more room to work with.

Barring injury I don't see Bell playing much more in a Steeler uniform. I don't believe they'll line him up at WR and I can't believe they'd make him the starter after how Connor has played. The case for Bell becoming a WR IMO is weak. You not only want a guy who can catch but can get you YAC. I know Bell can do both but he's not a home run hitter. Never was.

I'd like to see Washington get more reps or try Samuels out there.

I do agree he should be a backup to Conner. However, I don't agree he should be the #3 WR. Those guys, while not making stand out plays, are still making some plays, they've been there the entire season, and they've earned the right to suit up on Sunday.

However, what I would do with Bell is run the wishbone every once in awhile to keep the defense honest.

After having watched Conner's latest performance, I really could care less if Bell comes back. Conner has been better, and more consistent than Bell was. Conner looks more explosive than Bell, has better speed, and he can find the endzone whether we're on the goal line or not.

I think if Bell comes back, he should ride the pine unless Conner gets hurt. If they try to do some kind of carousel it's just going to mess with the chemistry that this team is developing.

Conner is already well on his way to besting Bell's statistical output from the 2017 season. He's already matched Bell's 9 total rushing TDs from 2017 and we're only in Week 9. He's got a better YPC of 4.7 vs Bell's 4.0

I think Conner is playing better than anyone could've anticipated and he's earned the right to start while Bell has been a selfish loser, holding out for money that he's probably never going to get. Conner is making him look bad, and every team in the NFL is wondering if Bell is worth the headaches.

Tomlin seems to believe in running one guy almost exclusively so it would be interesting what happens if they get Bell back and are paying him $800k+ per week. I feel like Conner is doing a better job getting the rushing yardage as you mention his 4.7 avg to the 4.0 of Bell last year. Conner also had his 7th 20+ yard run Sunday compared to 3 for Bell all last year

They had an article at Post Gazette about Conner setting an all time Steeler record with 3 straig game of 100m yds and 2 TDs:

Pitt Post Gazette wrote:
Hall of Famer Franco Harris never did it. Neither did Hall of Famers Jerome Bettis, John Henry Johnson and Bill Dudley. And no, Le’Veon Bell didn’t do it, either.

In the 86-year history of the Steelers, James Conner is in a class by himself, the franchise’s first running back with three consecutive games with at least 100 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He went for 146 rushing yards and also had 66 receiving yards on five catches in the 33-18 win Sunday against Cleveland, the Steelers’ 15th consecutive regular-season win against the Browns at Heinz Field. I am not very good at math, but I believe that adds up to 212 yards from scrimmage. The Browns managed just 237 as a team.

I thought this an interesting read on Conner from Joe Starkeys mailbag at PPG:

Was James Conner this good when he played at Pitt or did he just work so hard to get to the level he is currently playing at?

Starkey: A little of both, Mr. River Runs Through It.
Conner had a sensational sophomore year at Pitt. If he had been permitted to go to the NFL after that 1,765-yard, 26-touchdown season, I’m guessing he would have gone much higher than when the Steelers took him two years later.

I just went back and looked at one of Conner’s college highlight reels, and I saw him doing everything he’s doing now — running people over, making people miss, outrunning them from time to time and even catching some passes downfield. But as we know, everything changed after his sophomore year. He tore his MCL in the 2015 season opener and then was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

I never doubted Conner could make it in the NFL. I did not predict he would be a star. Neither did any of the 32 NFL teams, or he would have been a first-round pick, right?

I agreed with NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein (son of former Steelers O Line coach Larry Zierlein), who issued the following scouting report on Conner going into the draft two years ago:

“Physical, battering-ram style runner who makes the hitting a two-way affair. Conner's lack of speed and reactive quickness could limit his role as a pro, but his heart, work ethic and ability to keep the chains moving could make him a red-zone specialist with the ability to handle some third down duties as well.”

What happened?

Well, for one thing, Conner got a taste of the NFL last season and realized he needed to reach a whole new level of conditioning and commitment. He did, as his good friend Sean Gallagher underscored in this story.

MIke Tomlin was very clear, before this season, that Conner was not ready last year.

“There’s consequences of not being in condition,” Tomlin said, speaking of another player. “We were talking about James Conner earlier. He experienced some of the issues of not being professionally ready a year ago."

What I didn’t see in college, and what I see now, is the make-’em-miss moves and acceleration. This Conner is sleeker and faster.

He has become a star.
