My game experience Empty
PostSubject: My game experience    My game experience EmptyTue Jan 24, 2017 3:21 pm

About an hour before the game, I started getting a migraine and decided to lay down for half an hour. My wife woke me up and said the game was getting ready to start. That's the last thing I remember for a while.

Shortly after waking up, I had a seizure, the first of my life. I fell off the bed, hit my head on the wall, and somehow broke my foot in the process. When I came to, I was sitting on the edge of my bed being stared at by my wife, daughter, my son and his girlfriend, my father, a neighbor, and two guys I didn't know, who turned out to be EMTs. I had no idea what was going on.

The EMTs explained to me what happened, and that they were taking me to the hospital. My first thought was that I'd miss the Steelers game. I protested, but in my condition, it was more of a defeated whimper than a serious protest.

Long story short, I missed the game. But I knew the outcome from overhearing people at the hospital. Over the past few days, I've seen some highlights from my hospital bed and have read some comments here at SX and on various news sites. I got home today and discovered two things:

1. My life is no different because of the seizure. Although it's too early to know for sure, it appears to be an isolated incident.

2. My life is no different because of the Steelers loss. Losing sucks, and winning is always preferable, but my life would be no different today if they had won.

Well, there is ONE difference. I had to leave the hospital today in a walking boot. I guess I was channeling Ben. And I guess that makes me a drama queen.  My game experience 294855916  Ben LOL

Wally,

You may consider yourself lucky in more ways than one.

You missed the game.....believe me, no loss there.

Your seizure is hopefully an isolated medical event, and considering the circumstances I wouldn't label you a drama queen.

Feel better!

Damn dude I hope you're ok.

Honestly after a point in my life I stopped putting so much importance on the outcome of Steelers games and started looking at it as what it is: entertainment. Yes a win is awesome and a loss sucks, but in the grand scheme of things it isn't all that important. Your health on the other hand..

Wally

Yikes - Hope everything works out positively

I enjoy watching the Steelers but with the passage of time I recognize, as stated by Fire Arians, it is only entertainment and not something like health and family that really matters

Damn Wally, I am sorry to hear about this incident. I'm glad you are okay and doing better. Next to family, your health is the most important thing in life. Get well buddy.

Scary man! But glad you're alright! Don't worry about the game, I wish I could rid my brain of that travesty. Hopefully your seizure was definitely an isolated incident.

Given what happened to you, be glad you missed the game. Just another day of Pittsburgh having no clue how to beat the Pats*.

I always remind myself of that every night, win or lose, even after a loss. As soon as the game is over or I've shut it off, my concern automatically turns to what's going on in my life.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Holy Moly bud! Glad you came out on the other end mostly intact. Take care of yourself and monitor what may have caused it. While you were having a seizure at your hotel, the Steelers defense had their own seizure in the secondary so you didn't miss much of anything.

Be well friend.

I sure hope you're feeling better friend. Like everyone else said it was not a must see game unless you're a Cheatriots fan and we know better.

Here's to you getting healthy and able to enjoy next season.

I'm glad you are okay, Wally. A Steelers game is peanuts to good heath and well-being.

Silver lining is you missed the worst Steelers performance I can remember. They looked unprepared and were derailed as soon as Bell went under.

Thanks for all the kind words. Between my health scare, missing the Steelers game (only the third Steelers game I've missed in about the past 25 years), and Ben's postgame comments, this week has been surreal.

I'll be off work for a while as I try to get my health situation straightened out. Hopefully Ben and the Steelers get their crap straightened out as well.
