Let's get this thread going!

Steelers sign 11 to reserve / futures contracts. Players of note: Quadree Henderson and J.T. Barrett's. Skipper Tuzar has been signed to a 2 year contract.

Tomlin expects some offseason coaching changes.

I think Fitchner should and needs to be gone. I think Butler is hiding behind Tomlin so why not can him too. I won't claim to know who is out there as replacements. We need both coordinators who can maximize talent with schemes. We've seen more of that on D this year but I think that was Tomlin more than Butler. We've seen some of the most idiotic plays calls on O. Maybe Butler should get one more year but no way does Fitchner deserve any more time.
I think we need to sign Dupree.

He said that last year too and they did what? Fired a running backs coach or some shit, and let munchak leave. Hopefully they are serious this time and Fichtner gets the boot

I would agree. Especially on the Dupree signing. I wouldn't have thought I would be writing that now at the beginning of this season. Also like to see them sign a veteran QB and RB in free agency. We cannot rely on Conner. Hoping the draft brings a TE and some OL

No coaching change will help if the team doesnt do anything about our O-Line.

Pouncey despite getting a nod to the pro bowl was absolute garbage, Villanueva killed a ton of drives this year, and Foster is just old and slow.

There isn't a OC out there that can help us if the O-Line doesn't get some serious attention. You can blame the coaches all you like but the O-Line played pretty piss poor all 16 games.

2020 opponents are set:

By virtue of Denver's win against Oakland, the Broncos round out the Steelers' schedule next season. Their home opponents are the three other AFC North teams, Philadelphia, Washington, Indianapolis, Houston and Denver. They will play on the road at the divisional opponents, Jacksonville, Tennessee, New York Giants, Dallas and Buffalo.

Except for the Redskins and Giants (but they will have new coaches), decent to very good teams, but not elite teams based on this season. Talking about non-divisional teams of course. Season could go either way it seems, tough to predict.

PostSubject: Re: 2020-2021 Offseason Moves   2020-2021 Offseason Moves EmptyThu Jan 02, 2020 6:04 am

Every year at least 1 team on our schedule comes off of the bottom. We look at next year's schedule thinking some are easy wins and find out that 1 team is rising just in time to be competitive. Who will it be? Probably not Cleveland.
Seriously it is almost impossible to look ahead and know for sure if a schedule is tough or not based on the previous year. It's the teams that are able to implant real talent at weak areas like we did with Nelson and Firzpatrick. You also can't look ahead and know things like will your starting QB miss the entire season. I felt like if we hadn't suffered so many injuries last season that we would have been a team to be feared in the playoffs. Instead we're in the "shit happens" zone.
We have a lot of questions about next year:
1) Does Ben make it back healthy and able to play at a high level?
2) Can we fill holes without a first round pick?
3) What are our biggest needs? IMO it's LT,LG,TE,RB. Not necessarily in that order.
4) Will all of our coaching staff be back?
5) Can Ju Ju be a true #1WR?
This to me is the short list. I think a lot of crucial decisions need to be made in the off season.

This definitely made me happy. Skipper showed more promise than Chickillo ever has. This doesn't bode well for Chickillo's future as a Steeler. While he was a passable special teams player, he simply wasn't getting the job done as an OLB. Skipper has a higher ceiling, and will cost less against the cap than Chickillo. Younger, more athletic, and cheaper. Win, win, and win.

I expect Ramon Foster to be let go as well. His play really fell off this year, and he's getting up there in age. I think the team will keep Pouncey but they'll let Foster go. That should save a bit against the cap as well.

Bud Dupree likely gets the franchise tag, and I think that they will try to use their cap space to sign Hargrave.

Cam Sutton is gone so that will be 900K saved.
Chickillo gone would be 6 mil
Foster would be 5.5
McDonald needs to go. We don't need part time help. 7.1
McCullers needs to go and honestly should have been gone 2 years ago.  1.6

These moves could save us 21.1 million. We might even get a pick if we traded McDonald but I doubt it.
I think moves like these are what is required if we hope to keep both Dupree and Hargrave.

JT could definitely have a place in today's NFL.  Just look at what Lamar Jackson has been able to accomplish.  The mobile QB has a shot anymore.

Just think if we'd have had a mobile guy behind center at times this year, when we have concrete shoes Rudolph, followed by Hodges?

I watched him at OSU and he was terrific. I'd love to see him actually get a chance.

Based on what happened this last season I believe he will get his chance to compete next camp.

I've heard of him, and he's got a great track record. Looking forward to him being on board and helping young QBs (whoever they may be next year) progress.

Looks like a really good hire to me..

It makes sense on both sides. He wants starter money, and someone will give it to him, and we no one can afford to give starter money to someone who isn't starting.

It's interesting to me that I've read people say we should keep Davis and get rid of Edmunds.I don't understand that logic. I think Edmunds has a higher ceiling.

Maybe a FA OL who can bring some run blocking abilities and protecting the QB skills?
WR should be the next fill in the blank priority.

As always, finding some coordinators who know how to utilize the talent on the field.

I agree an OL FA would help but we need a TE more than a WR.
