Time to focus on the upcoming season, if there ends up being one.

BTSC is predicting that Samuels will not make the squad.

i agree. samuels wont make it. personally i dont think they ever even tried to use him for the resons they even drafted him. how many balls were even thrown his way ? the offense was so bland and lacking imagination last year that samuels skill set wasn't in demand.

I agree with BTSC, seems like the odd man out. Was really kind of a one hit wonder from that Patriots* game where he put up some stats. Hasn't done enough outside of that IMO to warrant keeping him around. Unless he gets a fire lit under his ass and turns it up a notch in practice I too think he's gone.

I doubt he beats out any of the other backs including Kerrith-whyte. Actually I think we start the season with Connor-Snell, McFarland and Watt.

Our RB situation is a mess. Conner can't stay healthy, and the rest are fringe players. I don't think McFarland is the answer to anything.

I'll consider Watt as a pure FB.

I like McFarland he's fast and can catch out of the backfield put a fullback in front of him.

I wouldn't sleep on McFarland. He has that "it" factor to him that jumps out to me when I watch his college tape. Dudes got gamebreaker speed and moves. He could be a total bust, but I have a good gut feeling about him.

McFarland could very well be a Willie Parker type runner. Willie broke a 70 yarder in the SB against the Seahags. What was it Willie said? Something like if you grew up in my neighborhood you had to be able to run fast.

First injury of the year. Dotson was supported to be a raw prospect with potential.

I'm hoping for big things from McFarland. I loved Willie Parker and it would be awesome to have someone similar again.

Good article on Claypool from Post Gazette:

Joe Haden on Steelers rookie Chase Claypool: 'He's going to be a problem'

A constant theme throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has been the uphill battle NFL rookies face to earn playing time due to the truncated camps and the cancellation of preseason games. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has mentioned it quite often this summer, and veteran players have empathized with their plight.

After the Steelers’ first padded practice of camp, one prominent player is sounding a different tune.

Joe Haden, the three-time Pro Bowl cornerback, was effusive in his praise of rookie receiver Chase Claypool, who made an acrobatic catch over him Monday in the end zone.

“That was a really, really good play,” Haden said Tuesday morning.

“It wasn’t even just that play,” Haden said. “He’s had a couple of plays on me this camp. I’ve been lined up on him pretty often. He’s a big, fast receiver. He’s able to adjust to the ball in the air. He’s a big body, a big deep threat with soft hands who can go up and get it. As long as he can stay healthy, I think he’s going to be a problem.”

Haden quote tweeted a video from the Steelers’ Twitter feed of Claypool making a catch in the end zone without a defender on him. The catch, with Claypool twisting his body in the air to grab the ball, was similar to the one he had on Haden in the end zone.

Haden believes Claypool might even be a part of the receiver rotation early in the season.

“I think he can,” Haden said. “He has impressed me — just his size, his speed, his ability to adjust to the ball in the air. And then he really doesn’t say too much. He’s just out there every day working hard, asking questions, getting the routes. He’s been doing a really good job.

“I think he’s a great young talent. His work ethic shows he wants to be great. He doesn’t do too much talking. He just gets after it. As long as he knows the playbook, as long as he and Ben [Roethlisberger] are on the same accord with the checks, he has all the physical attributes to be a baller.”

Hopefully it's not serious, dude definitely had potential and he's extremely motivated as he grew up a Steelers fan. Might've even competed for a job, who knows.

Nothing major for Dotson, he's expected to be out only short-term. Not good for a rookie though who needs as many reps as he can get.

I read that on one of local beat writer's Twitter feeds. Whomever it was also said: Dotson was not going to be part of the 2020-2021 team anyway, and would only make the field in 2021 or 2022 earliest.

I'm really hoping for big things from Claypool. I watched him at Notre Dame and was hoping all along he'd end up in Black and Gold. In keeping with forum rules it is not the entire article, I left out the bottom paragraph which dealt with team injuries.

Steelers' draft picks continue to shine in training camp

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin called this week of training camp a “lean-in week.” Translation: It’s nut-cutting time for some young players if they want to have roles when the regular season begins in three weeks.

“If guys are going to make a move, now is the time,” Tomlin said Monday afternoon following practice at Heinz Field. “They got acclimated to the environment, how we go about our business. It’s really time for the talents to start to show for there to be fluidity in play. Those are some of the things we’re looking for. We’re thoughtfully constructing some of that in competition. We’re asking for specific matchups. We want to see who can compete against varsity-like guys.”

On Monday afternoon, two rookies continued to make a strong push for playing time. Receiver Chase Claypool and outside linebacker Alex Highsmith — the top two Steelers draft choices — were among the players Tomlin wanted to get a longer look at in practice Monday, and they did not disappoint.

“To be succinct, they’re proving they belong,” Tomlin said. “Both guys have distinguished themselves against JV competition over the course of camp. They’ve gotten more opportunities against known veteran guys. And really, they don’t appear to be out of place in that company. So far, so good.”

Teammates and coaches alike seem to be raving about him and he already seems to have a little chemistry with Ben. I like his odds.

Late signee Curtis Riley ‘has been impressive,’ providing Steelers depth at safety

The first week of padded practices, according to the official pool reports, have reinforced that. Riley “keeps making plays” during 11-on-11 sessions and has taken reps with the starters when Terrell Edmunds has missed time because of injury.

Steelers need to go though free agency for defensive back help, they sure can't draft defensive backs.

Giants considering boycotting a game....

Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard: Giants game boycott not ruled out

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants haven't ruled out the option of sitting out a game in the regular season to protest social injustice, according to lead running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver Sterling Shepard.

Barkley and Shepard were asked on Zoom calls Thursday after practice whether not playing was a possibility. They did not rule it out. Both said it was something that would be discussed among the team.

"I can't really just go and speak on behalf of the whole league, but, for us, that is something that we're going to talk about within our [social justice] groups, within our team," Barkley said. "What's talked about in players meetings stays in players meetings."

It's unclear how serious the Giants players are about skipping a game. The Giants open on Sept. 14, a Monday night, when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I know I'm skipping watching this season. That's a certainty. Most I'll do is check the score but I'm not spending my money on the NFL or any of the other professional sports organizations. Tired of them villainizing and demonizing the police every chance they get. It's like they sit around and wait for something to get reported on the news and then they immediately condemn it without waiting for all of the facts and details to come out. I can support change, but not when it pushes a false narrative overall.

Really wish these guys would stop using their job as a platform to force their opinions on everyone else. Do that in your own free time. Let fans have their one escape from the everyday BS.

There is a quote from a man named Herbert Spencer that always rang true with me:

"There is a principle which is bar against all information, proof against all argument and can not fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance. That principle is contempt prior to investigation".

I said for years if they ever moved the Steelers to another city I'd quit watching the NFL. I never dreamed that there would be another totally different reason but I am close right now. If this season goes the way of political bullshit like I think it will I will not be watching any sports. They can protest. That's their right. I too have the right to not watch them or spend any money on merchandise.

The last straw for me was the Packers and Ravens organizations coming out and openly denouncing the police even after the fact that Jacob Blake did in fact have a knife was released to the public. When that information was released they should've just shut their mouths. Instead they doubled down. That's when I just decided that I've had enough. You show these people blatant evidence that justifies the actions taken by the police in that situation and they simply ignore it.

Here's the rundown. Jacob Blake was a at a residence where he was barred from by a protective order stemming from a domestic abuse charge he had previously. Someone called the police on him, presumably the residence owner/occupant or the protected party from the no contact order. Jacob Blake also happened to have active warrants out for his arrest that were for sexual harrassment/assault charges. The police were well within their rights to be there. They definitely didn't just show up and pick on him because of his skin color. They were called, and Mr. Blake brought that upon himself. Once the police arrived on scene they attempted to place Mr. Blake under arrest at which point he physically resisted them. The officers were unable to control him physically so they utilized a taser in an attempt to subdue him. The taser was ineffective which resulted in Mr. Blake being able to break free from the officers. Mr. Blake then power walked his way around the front of his SUV. On video you can now see what appears to be a knife in his hand. Mr. Blake then opens his driver side door and begins to reach under the seat at which point the officer behind him grabs his shirt and ultimately opens fire on Mr. Blake disabling him. None of this was race-driven. He was trying to flee a felony arrest warrant for a sexual offense and he had possession of a knife (which Blake himself has admitted to). The officer that shot him made the right decision. If he had not shot Mr. Blake someone else could've been seriously injured and/or killed. The knife was recovered from his floorboard as well.

A lot of people don't understand just how dangerous it is to allow a suspect to get back into their vehicle. You have no idea what they have in their vehicle be it a gun, an edged weapon, or a blunt object. A vehicle in and of itself can be a weapon. I'm going to share and example here of what happens when you hesitate as a police officer and give someone too many chances. Be forewarned this video is graphic, I can't even watch it myself anymore because it makes me sick to my stomach just listening to it. This video is shown to law enforcement officers, corrections officers, and to criminal justice students. I watched this one in college when we touched on use-of-force incidents, and I saw it again when I received training for my current job.

I could handle the kneeling, that kind of form of protest doesn't bother me much anymore. I still believe that we should all stand for the Anthem but it was within their rights to do so. I had accepted that. But when you perpetuate lies and ignore facts that prove the officers in Kenosha were justified... that's enough for me.

I too have the right to not watch them or spend any money on merchandise.

im gonna laugh my ass off when these morons destroy the cash cow that allows uneducated goons with no mental skills or the ability to speak proper english the chance to become multimillionaires. (strong back weak mind) .
colleges need to give more scholarships to people for their intelligence instead of physical attributes. athletes dont advance the human race. engineers and scientist do.

Iowa: I'm sorry to post this here as to derail the theme of the thread in the Steelers forum. However, in response to your comments here I wanted to make sure you saw this. I want you to understand the average person, in my opinion the vast majority of the populace, support, and thank, you and your fellow law enforcement officers for showing up for work everyday. Your job was difficult enough. It's getting more difficult everyday. You guys deserve the utmost respect for showing up to work under conditions that are rapidly deteriorating. Thank you again for what you do for all of us.
