2020 Record Prediction Empty
PostSubject: 2020 Record Prediction   2020 Record Prediction EmptyTue Sep 08, 2020 11:55 pm

An article at ESPN  "SIMULATING ALL 269 GAMES OF THE 2020 NFL SEASON" picks the season records and playoffs for the NFL. They have Steelers going 12-4, losing 2x to Ravens, once each to Bengals and Browns, and losing in the Wild Card to Texans. I think they beat Ravens once, and at most lose once to Bengals/Browns. I don't think think go 14-2 but still end up 11-5 to 12-4 territory if Ben is healthy and plays most of the year. D and running game both should be better with a healthy Ben even if Conner misses time.

Schedule doesn't look terrible, where do we end up record-wise? (I didn't realize we had a Thanksgiving game again this year)

l'm not sure about win/lose record but i do see the Sreelers getting off to a slow start picking up in the second half of the season getting in the playoffs as a wild card team.

Where do we go from here? I don't think anyone envisioned a 7-0 start. We just completed, and swept, a 3 game stretch where a lot of people had us winning one at best.

The next 3 games look winnable. Dallas is next and looks a lot easier than it did in the pre-season. I know Joe Burrow looks good but I still think we have good shot winning next 3 to get to 10-0.

The Ravens 2 is the hardest game left. Maybe Colts and Bills tough games but Buffalo doesn't seem to be playing as well. The last game at Cleveland could be inconsequential.

I don't know exactly where the losses would fall but 14-2 seems realistic at this point.

From Joe Starkey at Post Gazettte's weekly Q&A. Someone asked about the rest of the season and his take on it. He also thinks their "best football is in front of them":

Quote :
Which of the remaining Steeler games do you view as the toughest and what percentage do you have them to go 16-0?

Starkey: To your second question, Dr. Hoagie: Sports Illustrated ran this story before the Cincinnati game . It quoted the site sportsbettingdime.com as pegging the odds at 19-1.

Also going into the Cincinnati game, footballoutsiders.com rated the odds at just under 5 percent.

Me? I’m no bookmaker, but I give ’em about a 30 percent chance. Two weeks ago, I was told by self-described “props maven” and VP of Zucker Media Group Jimmy Shapiro that the Steelers would be favored in each of their remaining games, Buffalo being the possible exception (although, at the time, he said oddsmakers told him the Steelers would be a 3.5-point favorite in that game).

Here’s how I would rank the remaining seven games, in order of difficulty …

Baltimore: Almost always nail biter.

at Buffalo: A lot depends on mercurial Josh Allen.

Indianapolis: They’ll make you earn it.

at Cleveland: Say what you want, Browns are 6-3.

at Jacksonville: Gave Green Bay a game.

at Cincinnati: Maybe they’ll run another fake punt.

Washington: 1-7 since beating wretched Eagles.

As I’ve mentioned here before, it’s almost as if the Steelers are accidentally 9-0. They should have lost either the Baltimore or Dallas games and could have lost a few others. They should be something like 7-2, but here they are — and here’s the key to it all:

I believe their best football is in front of them.

Combine that with the fresh pain of having crumbled down the stretch the past two seasons and the real issue of the Kansas City Chiefs sitting just a game behind for the No. 1 seed, and I think you’ll see a motivated, focused team for each of the games above — so long as they need to win.

Can you imagine if the Steelers are 15-0 and don’t need the Cleveland game to end the season? Do you play your starters?

That question is a long way from being asked. Six wins away, to be precise. I wouldn’t bet on the Steelers getting there — but I’d give them a better chance than most.
