Heading into Week 13, the Steelers defense leads the NFL in three key categories: They have the most sacks (41), the most takeaways (23) and they've also given up the fewest points (188). The reason that's notable is that since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, no defense has ever finished the season as the leader in all three of those categories. For defenses, this is basically the triple crown.

imagine if they could stop giving up those 3rd and longs ... ...for some reason im more confident they will stop a 3rd and 3 than i am that they will stop a 3rd and 13 ..

Defense definitely isn't an issue with this team. If we had an offense that wasn't Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde week in and week out we'd be an unstoppable force.

I agree but here's the thing. If we don't start playing sound on offense what we'll have is last years really good,really tired defense trying to win games for us. Labriola sums it up pretty good here:

The injuries are piling up on the D. If Spillane doesn't get injured I believe we still would have won, but not having Bush/Spillane and Nelson and Haden really cost us. Without Bush/Spillane teams will feed their pass-catching RB like Washington did with McKinnick. It's an easy mismatch to exploid when you don't have a fast ILB.
