it appears the two NFL salary cap websites , spotrac and over the cap , give conflicting information regarding Joe Hadens contract.

spotrac says we would only take a $2.975 DEAD CAP hit if they cut haden. they forgot to add in a bonus

2021 - 2022 Offseason Moves - Page 9 Haden_12

over the cap says $8,575 million

when i thought the savings were like 12 million i was like...see ya joe ..2021 - 2022 Offseason Moves - Page 9 2472506995
now with new information im like ..2021 - 2022 Offseason Moves - Page 9 3135543967  ..well 7 aint that bad.

so would you keep or cut haden for 7 ?

well at least the ledger is in the green now. assuming the cap goes to 185 .. 2021 - 2022 Offseason Moves - Page 9 190127080
still work to be done. cutting hayden, decastro, VWilliams, and ebron would free up about 28 million ..all guys i suspect that could be replaced for less than their salary with very little to zero drop off and possibly upgrade of production at the position. a guy on the market this year with tape like ebrons will be lucky to get a 1 year 3 million dollar deal.
i believe there is going to be a shit load of high end tier 2 players available on the cheap. once the frugal teams blow their bank role and get their fill of the tier1 players . i  think colbert could do some good bargain shopping with $16 -18 million to spend. i think a lot of decent players are going to get low balled because of the cap and many are going to be willing to sign discount  one year deals because they know teams are tightening the belt for just this year.
the cap casualties are already hitting the market. they need to get that money free'd up.

It’s possible a reunion with the Steelers occurs. Pittsburgh didn’t want Finney to walk last offseason but didn’t haver the money or opportunity the market could offer. After such a quiet season, Finney shouldn’t cost much more than the minimum. Now, the Steelers have a large role at center following Maurkice Pouncey’s retirement. Finney’s been a long-time Steelers’ fan so him coming back on a cheap one or two-year deal makes plenty of sense for both sides.

l like him when he was a Steeler.

Finney was a solid back up that showed potential wonder why he didn't pan out in Seattle or with Cincy.

I can't see them keeping Villaneuva or Dupree. Someone will overpay for Dupree and be sorry they did.

Also not keeping Ju Ju.

here is my question about haskins. well haskins and rudolf. both under contract for just this year. neither is likely to see the field. is what is seen in practice really enough to base a decision on who not only to offer another contract to , but who will be your starting QB ? especially when the pecking order dictates snap counts in practice.
how many times have we seen an underdog rookie emerge and look like the real deal in training camp and or preseason games , and the guy doesn't make the 53 or does and never shows those flashes again ?

Hopefully Canada will work with both young men and play to their strengths. Both of them have some excellent qb skills in different areas.

If we can get the Oline fixed and get back to running the football better it will take a lot of pressure off them.

I am looking forward to seeing what happens to the team when Ben is gone. I think Canada brings a lot of innovation and hopefully the young guys will get a proper shot to show what they have.

I would think what the coaches see in practice, review of film and their discussions in meetings with these guys gives them an assessment of who is the best choice come game day. Does that mean the coaches think the backups will win the Super Bowl? No, but they should be able to rank their QBs 1-3. Does that mean the #3 QB can't look good in a game and the #2 QB look like crap on any given week? Nope. What we as fans don't know is if those backups can read defenses, changes in coverage that will dictate audibles or hot routes, see blitzes pre-snap, if they are good with game management, has the maturity in the huddle to get his teammate to follow him, etc. There's a reason Rudolph is still on the team with a rotation of QBs behind him ... some of whom have experience or pedigree. I'm sure his coaches aren't thinking of him as the next coming of Brady, but he obviously makes them feel more comfortable taking the field over the other options they've had.

before mason there was landry.  2021 - 2022 Offseason Moves - Page 9 1797695198
landry re-signed a 2 year contract for 4.4 million  in 2017.
in 2017 landry started one game. the last game of the season against the browns. he had his best game of his career going 23 /28 / 239 yds
i see a pattern forming 2021 - 2022 Offseason Moves - Page 9 3135543967
landry was kicked to the curb in 2018 after drafting mason and became a 300k dead cap hit.
the end.

According to OverTheCap.com, there are 10 NFL teams who are currently over the $182.5 million cap. As for the Steelers, OTC has them currently $5,307,086 underneath the salary cap at the present time. The Steelers fifth-round draft pick was traded to the Baltimore Ravens for Chris Wormley and the Steelers received their seventh-round draft pick. The Steelers sixth-round draft pick was traded to the Miami Dolphins as part of the Mikah Fitzpatrick trade and the Steelers received their seventh-round draft pick. According to OverTheCap.com, there are 10 NFL teams who are currently over the $182.5 million cap. As for the Steelers, OTC has them currently $5,307,086 underneath the salary cap at the present time. This calculation also does not take into account the report of Derek Watt restructuring his contract and saving $880k.

Officially the 140st pick in the draft, the Steelers will now have eight picks in the 2021 draft. The Steelers first four selections will all be their regularly awarded picks while the final four will all be as a result of the compensatory process or trade. The Steelers received Tampa Bay‘s sixth-round draft pick as part of the Jerald Hawkins trade in 2019 and the Steelers surrendered their seventh-round draft pick.
