should he be there at 24 and the steelers don't take him , i bet the browns do at 26.  but i would say his draft stock hinges on his workout. i believe he needs to run at least a 4.6 to be a first round pick. they will being paying close attention to Najee Harri's workout as well. Etiene ran a 4.43 ... while i do believe the tape is more important than the workout , had the steelers  paid more attention to the 4.8 jarvis jones ran... if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 3135543967

a lot of people had nick bolton ahead of collins on their boards. Nick bolton did NOT have a good workout. his knock was he is not a good athlete and his workout showed just that. his 40 time was acceptable but his short shuttle and 3 cone shows a guy that doesnt change direction very well.

Not a fan. Actually, I think of Bolton as a poor man's Jarvis Jones.

Collins reminds me of (said with a tear in my eye  if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 3096553220 ) my boy Levon Kirkland.

i like bolton. he's nothing flashy. he's just a blue collar tackling machine that gives maximum effort on every play. for sure he would be an upgrade over VWill. he isn't totally useless in coverage. watch the mizzou vs alabama game. i thought he accounted very well for himself considering the overall team mismatch.

Stock up for Creed Humphrey after Pro Day showcase

Quote :
Foremost among those players is Oklahoma center Creed Humphrey, who had an outstanding performance in the athletic testing portion of the Sooners’ Pro Day workout last week. The 6-foot-4, 312-pounder clocked unofficial times of 5.09 seconds in the 40-yard dash, 4.46 seconds in the shuttle and 7.54 seconds in the 3-cone drill while posting a 33-inch vertical and a 9-feet, 4-inch broad jump with 29 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Those numbers rank among the best marks posted by a center prospect in the last 30-plus years of pre-draft testing.

still stand my ground Humphrey at 24, change my mind...See the source image

i wouldnt be mad if the steelers took him at 24. we need a starting center , he will be a starting center.  . i think at the very least humphrey goes to KC at 31. the packers also lost their starting center to the chargers they pick 29  . he wont be there at 55 thats for sure . safe pick that makes the line instantly better...whats not to like ? if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 2087824411
this isn't a case of just looking to upgrading a position. we DO NOT have a legit starter at center. i would say that should make center the most pressing need so i'm willing to get on the humphrey train. if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 184121345

this guy is intriguing for an early day 3 pick. he was a solid blind side protector for wilson. would be great as a 3rd tackle in the jumbo set.

Yep, there was a mistake made in those numbers. 4.39 was the 40 time for Parsons.

So what did Oweh run in his 40?

4.36 if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 2583843358

And that weak showing in bench press, whoever was his strength coach at PSU should be ashamed. The guy was doing narrow grip bench which is almost entirely triceps. Widen the grip and you get more reps, dammit man!

You should also highlight the broad and verts, totally crazy numbers indicating extreme explosiveness. Make that man an OLB!

But the one stat that has me wondering what's going on with this guy: 0 sacks this past season. You mean to tell me a guy like that doesn't accidentally sack a QB? I think his season was 7 games, but 0 sacks. No

The only issue I have is that I really didn't think he was a 1st rounder. But like I said a long time ago, other teams will reach and if you want the best option in a very limited field, you'll have to reach too.

So, with everything they've done thus far I think they need:

O-Line

Do you think they are set at RB? I still think if Najee Harris or Etienne are available at 24 they will go that direction.

Perhaps snag one of them and trade up in the 2nd to get the C.

I just saw a mock on NFL.com that had us picking Zavon Collins. It shows Entiene going #32 and Najee Harris is still on the board. I'd love to see Collins/Bush together but I call bullshit on Harris being there at the beginning of rd 2

with that size , speed, and agility this guy should be able to excel at multiple positions.  can you imagine a DB or LB trying to cover him ? not only being that tall with super long arms but his vertical leap ? how could you over throw him ? if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 2087824411

Quote :
Tony Pauline’s Jayson Oweh Scouting Report

Positives: Explosive, undersized college defensive end with great athleticism. Plays with terrific pad level, effectively uses his hands, and has good strength for his size. Jolts opponents with terrific punch, plays off blocks, and gets behind the line of scrimmage making plays against the run. Smooth and fluid moving about the field or dropping off the line to play in space.

Quick, explosive, and fast up the field. Agile, has a stout build, and rarely gets off his feet. Fast moving in every direction, gets out laterally in pursuit of the ball handler, and gives effort.

Negatives: Lacks bulk and gets easily out-positioned from the action by a single blocker. Has average instincts and is slow locating the ball. Occasionally stands over tackle but isn’t as effective as he is in a three-point stance.

Analysis: Oweh was an explosive, athletic college defensive end who made a lot of plays behind the line of scrimmage and in space. He must fill out his frame to play out of a three-point stance or improve his game standing over tackle. Although Oweh comes with huge upside, he’ll start off as a situational pass rusher as a rookie and may experience a lot of bumps in the road.

Perhaps snag one of them and trade up in the 2nd to get the C.

And there I went and typed "thus far" and assumed they would bring Connor back on a cheap deal. So assuming Connor is not brought back:

RB - As much as I like Harris, the Steelers, under Tomlin, tend not to draft RB in round 1.

O-Line - Center seems to be the big need, but not sure the talent warrants a #24 pick. Also, not sold on the current RT (assuming Banner is LT).

CB - They lost 2 starters and retained a backup. By my count they need 2 guys and not sure they are named Lane or Pierre. And Haden isn't getting younger.

ILB - VW is gone and they resigned Spillane. Spillane was exposed in the run game and I've lost confidence that he's the answer. You can scheme around a deficiency at every position except QB and ILB. I like defense and LBs make it happen (see D. White in the playoffs and SB). I use #24 on a solid ILB, if the right one falls (Collins  if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 1426860608 )

OLB - They are down 2 guys at this position. There's really no depth, so expect a pick to used here at some point.

TE - McDonald is don; Gentry is a project that I don't see light at the tunnel yet; Raider seems to be liked by his coaches, but I haven't seen him make a push yet; the rest are just bodies. They need a 2nd to Ebron.

Draft expert says Oklahoma's Creed Humphrey firmly in first round discussions
Former NFL and college football head coach Jim Mora Jr. said Creed Humphrey's pro day answered questions surrounding the center, vaulting him into Day 1 consideration at the NFL Draft

Quote :
“I think he really elevated his draft status, his draft stock,” Mora said. “I think some of the questions (about Humphrey) were the traits, the quickness, the change of direction, the things like that, the burst. And he answered all of those questions.”

Around this time last year, Wisconsin center Tyler Biadasz was widely considered the top interior offensive line prospect for the 2020 NFL Draft, but a pedestrian season led to him falling in April. Ultimately, Biadasz was selected in the fourth round by the Dallas Cowboys to replace the recently retired Pro Bowler Travis Frederick. Oklahoma’s Creed Humphrey is the best draft-eligible interior offensive lineman in 2021, but he will experience a different fate than that of Tyler Biadasz.

The 2021 NFL Draft class is loaded, featuring the likes of Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, and Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell as the headliners. When it comes to offensive line prospects, outside of Sewell, Creed Humphrey is the prize of the class. Humphrey is poised for an outstanding 2020 season and is the early odds-on favorite to win the Rimington Trophy, which is awarded to the player who is considered to be the best center in college football.

Related: Oklahoma Sooners could produce multiple 2021 offensive line options

It came as quite the surprise that Humphrey decided to return to Oklahoma for his junior season, as he was a lock to be a top-20 selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, his return might just give the Sooners the best offensive line in college football, as all five starters from the unit return for the 2020 season.

Quote :
The productivity did not let up in 2020 and Humphrey was named first-team All-Big 12 and third-team All-American. To top off the accolades, he did not allow a sack for two consecutive seasons (2019-20).

not bad workouts for the NC backs but nothing jumps out compared to their film. i expected carter to run a sub 4.5. and javonte to come in a little heavier. i thought he was more in the 220 lb range. maybe he slimmed down to try to get a faster 40. a 4.55 aint bad for a 220+ lb'er ...but a 212 lb'er ?

i wouldnt be mad if the steelers took him at 24. we need a starting center , he will be a starting center.  . i think at the very least humphrey goes to KC at 31. the packers also lost their starting center to the chargers they pick 29  . he wont be there at 55 thats for sure . safe pick that makes the line instantly better...whats not to like ? if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 2087824411
this isn't a case of just looking to upgrading a position. we DO NOT have a legit starter at center. i would say that should make center the most pressing need so i'm willing to get on the humphrey train. if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 184121345

The only issue I have is that I really didn't think he was a 1st rounder. But like I said a long time ago, other teams will reach and if you want the best option in a very limited field, you'll have to reach too.

So, with everything they've done thus far I think they need:

O-Line
CB
ILB
OLB
TE

Draft expert says Oklahoma's Creed Humphrey firmly in first round discussions
Former NFL and college football head coach Jim Mora Jr. said Creed Humphrey's pro day answered questions surrounding the center, vaulting him into Day 1 consideration at the NFL Draft

Quote :
“I think he really elevated his draft status, his draft stock,” Mora said. “I think some of the questions (about Humphrey) were the traits, the quickness, the change of direction, the things like that, the burst. And he answered all of those questions.”

humphrey seemed to get a lot more love last year.  as far as i know , he didnt have a bad year this year that should have knocked him down a complete round ... if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 2829330259

To top off the accolades, he did not allow a sack for two consecutive seasons (2019-20).

when you think of artie burns or terrel edmunds, can you really consider humphrey to be a reach ? if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 2087824411

The issue with listening to guys like Mora Jr is that they have 50 guys rated as 1st rounders. I say don't given into temptation. Hell MOP, Artie Burns and Terrell Edmunds were considered reaches because the Steelers took the next highest rated guys in those positions based on their needs. They really needed a top CB and Burns was the next guy on the board. i say take Collins in the 1st and if Humphrey isn't there in the 2nd, Dickerson or someone else will be.

does that make him any less credible than the other 1000 draft talking heads ? how could a coach who has actually been involved in the draft process be less credible than guys like kiper who has only ever talked about the draft ?
every team has their own board and opinions / evaluations of players. do we know what their evaluation of humphreys is ? no we dont. they dont share that info. and if they did leak it , i would suspect it a disinformation campaign to throw other teams off of their intentions.. so that leaves us being influenced by guys like kiper. if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 2087824411

what is a teams definition of first round talent and where/what is the cutoff between first and second round ? there is never going to be exactly 32 players that fit into 32 teams first round box.  did colbert really have rudolf rated as first round talent ? did any other team think burns or edmunds was first round talent ? we can only speculate and look to the , "experts" , opinions.

my idea of a first round is a guy who could start and hold his own against NFL players if need be. is there only 32 guys that fit that definition ? nope...could be more, could be less. it will vary every draft.
you and I can both watch a players game film and walk away with 2 different opinions about that players talent level. its not a science. bias plays a huge part in opinions. if there's a RB i want on the team and a LB you want...well there's a bias. if i think this position is our biggest need and you think that position is our biggest need...there is a bias. do that for 32 teams and bam...you have 2 different  mock drafts and 2 different  big boards...lol

Agree with all your points but one ... Kiper don't influence the Kirk! (wanted to say that like a diva .. you know, speak about myself in the 3rd person). Ok, now back to being serious. I'm a huge advocate of not listening to any of these guys. I base most of my opinions on what i see in game film. I try not to watch just highlights because I've seen too many guys who have great highlight clips, but then you miss the 90% of the plays they suck at. I've stated several times, we should take our opinion of players the day they last walk off a college field as a majority of where they should be drafted. After all, anything that occurs after that is usually hype and talk. Yes, measurables are important, but Clowny is just one extreme example that being an athletic beast doesn't always translate to the field. The combine should be confirmation not discovery of a player.

So, when college football ended, I think I posted that this was a very weak Center class, especially once the top couple are gone. I stand by that statement. Does that mean none of these young guys can't become great, make Pro Bowl of HOF? Nope, just like Brady and AB were 6th rounders nobody believe in. The idea behind my comment was that if you stack rank all athletes (big board), you wouldn't hit Center until a number that corresponds to the 3rd round ... and I still believe that. IMO, Humphrey, Dickerson and Myers are your best options. I have to admit, I wasn't as high on Myers until I learned that he followed the OSU path of playing Guard, then moving to Center and to top it off his entire lineage is pro and big college athletics. To your point, does that mean none will go higher? Absolutely not. I expect those 3 to be closer to 2nd round and you might see Humphrey in the 1st. I just think there's so much more talent to be had that to pick them in the 1st. I'd gamble and pick a Center in the 2nd. I know Dickerson has injury issues, but that dude is massively strong. Flashbacks of Pouncey getting pushed into the backfield in the Cleveland playoff game is something he could wipe clean for me. The AFC North likes to have huge, strong men stuffing the A gaps. Dickerson could be a counter to that.

Having said all that, if the Steelers believe Humphrey is the missing piece that will get them to the SB, by all means draft the guy early. I do like the kid, love his motor and grit. This authentic spewage I just laid out is not an indictment against him or the other Centers. I just believe there's a huge opportunity cost in getting transformational talent on the team by taking someone much earlier than their talent dictates.

it sure is. there seems to be an unusual amount of players running under 4.4 in this draft. i'm wondering just who is operating the stop watch. if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 2829330259 ...not that im suggesting there may be some fraud going on...but if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 2087824411 ..if i'm a players agent maybe i  slide some money in the stopwatch guys pocket if he falls to 24..... - Page 4 755331329
